All schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, Scouts, Girl Guides, youth and Junior Landcare groups in Victoria, are eligible to apply.
Delivered by Landcare Australia, and funded by the Victorian Government’s Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, the grants of up to $5,000 fund projects that improve Victoria’s biodiversity, and involve and educate young people in valuing and actively caring for Victoria’s biodiversity and natural environment.
What projects are eligible?
Funding is available for biodiversity focused on-ground projects and/or environmental education activities. For example:
- Do you want to teach your cohort about biodiversity? You can apply for funding to go on an excursion (e.g. to a wildlife sanctuary or national park) and/or for an incursion to engage an environmental educator to present on a biodiversity-focused topic.
- Do you want to increase your school’s biodiversity? You could develop an indigenous garden to create habitat for native birds and insects, with the support of your local Landcare group.
- Do you have a problem with weeds? You could get a grant for controlling and removing weeds, and work in collaboration with a local Landcare group to replant with local indigenous plants.
- Do you want to create a biodiversity art installation? Biodiversity art projects that involve students in the creation of the art are eligible for funding.
- Would you like to engage students in citizen science? You could monitor native birds or animals within your local area, and contribute to existing citizen science programs, such as Waterwatch or the Atlas of Living Australia.

These grants support the delivery of Protecting Victoria’s Environment - Biodiversity 2037 – the Victorian Government’s plan to stop the decline of our native plants and animals and improve our natural environment, so that it is healthy, valued and actively cared for.
